blogland, babies, prizes
so we got this thing in the mail. typical junk mail from a local car dealer, with a scratch-card prize winning thingy. so Michelle took it in to see if she could score a prize, and it showed up as a $1000 "on line shopping spree." woohoo!!! they told her to come back today to claim the prize, but they were rather short on details. we were hesitantly dreaming of a new digital camcorder, flat panel monitor, maybe even a new compy? well, it turns out it was a load of crap (surprise, surprise). the "spree" is only for www.selectyourgifts.com, which only sells cheap crap and charges more for shipping and handling than it's worth. but if you'd like to help yourself, feel free to log in with ID: KS97252 PW: 8665. if you'd like some magazines for $5 a year, or maybe a desktop waterfall for $7, go crazy.
oh and this is from the same car dealer that a friend of ours had quite an interesting experience with, involving police and lawyers and such. yuck. needless to say, we wont be shopping there for our transportation needs.

congratulations to Katie and Joel on the birth of their new daughter Eden. such a cutie! the pictures make me hope for a little girl, but we'd love to have 2 boys to be able to grow up together. november seems far away, but I'm sure it'll come rather quickly. michelle's almost through the first trimester, and she's been feeling better lately. she even busted out the old sewing machine last nite.

many thanks to Josiah and crew for the improvements to the chattablogs site. initially I wasnt too keen on some of the changes (being generally afraid of change). the new logo is cool, and I especially like the fact that on the list you can click on the entry or the blog main page. very nice. I'm still not sure about the pink, but I'll get over it. it's forced me to make the individual entry pages a little nicer too. hooray for coptix. best cheap hosting in town.

Thanks for the information on selectyourgifts.com! I used your ID# and password to preview the site before my husband went down to the car dealership to claim the prize. It would have cost over $300 in "shipping & handling" to claim the $1000 shopping spree and the gifts did not appear to be worth what they claimed. So, thanks again!
YES! , a RIP OFF! 40.00 shipping for a backpack! that const 6.00! this should be illigal!
What a joke; When I observed the items posted and the cost of shipping and handling, this is an absolute rip-off. The enticement for me to visit an automobile dealership and recieve this quality of gifts is a complete insult and conversally reflects on the integrity of this dealership. When I received this scratch-off and seen I won $1000.00 shopping spree I said to myself "WOW" How could this be.I soon found out, Gas, effort, time' wasted hopes shattered.
I was also a victim of the selectyourgifts.com delusion. I, however, "won" my certificate from a salesperson who tried to sell me a "Rainbow". If you've never heard of one of these its a $2000 vacuum/airpurifier. The "prize" was used by the company to get their salesperson in my house to do the product demo (which took so long that I missed the opportunity to meet up with an old college friend I haven't seen in two years and meet his new son! grrr....)
Since I had never heard of selectyourgifts.com, I had been under the delusion that perhaps I could use my precious $500 to purchase a much needed baby crib, as I am due in November. Or at the very least something that I could turn around and give to someone else at Christmas. What a joke. I didn't even have to read the countless complaints of fraud over the internet to see that there wasn't anything on the entire site that I'd take if they paid me! I can go to any flee market or dollar store if I wanted this kind of garbage!
Maybe I'll post my cert.# and password on my blog, just for the fun of it.
Just received one of those $1000.00 Gift certificates in the mail. "If its sounds to good to be true it probably is"..."follow the money". In situations like this always ask who's making the money ?? Every business transaction has a $ motive. The auto dealer mentioned on my gift certificate had already sold me a car ... there was no incentive for them to give me $1000.00. So I concluded the company supplying the gift certificate was the beneficiary and it made no sense to me as to how they could make any $ selling their products @ $5.00 ea. I went to the internet and discovered the truth about this scam. Thanks for making the truth available. available
My sister just received one of these $1000 certificates from Discovery Ford in Whitehall, Michigan. We went in yesterday to pick the certificate up, but before we went to the site today we did a search to see if there were any comments on selectyourgifts.com.
We weren't sure whether this was a scam or not--now we know. We aren't going to try to buy anything but we are going to look the site over.
My sister is going on 72 and had her heart all set on getting a much-needed item. Someone should tell the Ford dealers that this is no way to make friends. I need a car, but Discovery Ford would be the last place I looked for one.
Hey, this company totally sucks! I feel kind of hurt though, I only got a $500 gift certificate! I'm supposed to go to a 90-presentation tomorrow evening in order to get the certificate, they also say I get to have a dinner gift certificate and a free trip. I can't help but wonder what I will actually get. Do companies actually hope to make friends this way??

well, it is 2007 and the scam is still alive in mississippi from a chevy dealership. I do not blame the dealership for they were a victim also. this select your gift is a real rip-off .
imagine getting only $100.00?...as a prize no less.I will not identify the company that we won this prize from because i believe they're a great company that just needed some incentive prizes for their promotional "gimmick" and maybe they hadn't realized what they had bought into until after the fact.Infact i think i'll call them to find out the responses they've gotten and suggest to them that this prize does an injustice to their otherwise reputable company and may chase folks away that hadn't yet made the desision to go with thier offer the night of the promo. gathering and drawings, etc.. who knows... maybe theyr'e unaware. In truth i believe many of these items are 99 cents store type items and i only used ours because my husband thought it was a great gig ...only having to pay the s&h.I'm simply posting this comment because of how very differently i view the co. we recieved ours from than i view the selectyourgifts co. itself and syg needs to consider the potential damage it is doing to these otherwise reputable companies!
i was also scammed TODAY. got one of the 'if your numbers match you win a prize' letters in the mail. got my hopes up and hoped i would win the $7000 or a new desktop pc/laptop. there was also the $100 bill as one of the options and a 42" plasma. ended up false hopes as i drove to the dealership (ford TED BRITT) 30 minute drive only resulting in a waste of gas money! when i first won the $250 certificate i still had a slight bit of hope that maybe that site had something decent. to my suprise all of it was overpriced for shipping was not covered in the 'shopping spree' of $250
BIG SCAM!! SELECTYOURGIFTS.COM = MONEY MAKING SCHEME!!!
I just won a gift certificate from ebay on July 30, 2008 and actually went to a website that I thought was the real website for the gift certificate. The website had almost the same name and so I thought it was the real site. Well today its, August 6, 2008 and I just typed in the website address (www.selectyourgifts.com) and saw what I was really getting. I paid 10.49 as the winning bidder on Ebay for a 500.00 dollar certificate and all I have to do is pay shipping for each item purchased and a 5.00 processing fee each time I use the gift certificate for a order. Their merchandise on(www.selectyourgifts.com) is as cheap as when I go to a Dollar store!!! One of the cheapest quality items on the internet without a doubt. Big dissapointment this gift certificate is.
I would like to mention that the selectyourgifts SCAM is still on the move. Sawgrass Chrysler Deep Dodge in Florida lured my family to them about the gift certificate after I had received in the mail the scratch-off. I got all my hope up for nothing. At least we had gone to City Furniture first, so it was only a two minute drive and 15 minute wait at the dealership.
Thank you for providing the id and information here so I don't have to wait 2 weeks to have my hopes shattered for a $1,000 gift certificate with outrageous shipping fees. That site is such a rip-off! The old adage applies once again: If it is too good to be true, then it is!"

Buying any single one of the items listed on selectyourgifts.com would be a poor decision!
I counted several items on that site that I know to have encountered in dollar stores (i.e. Dollar Tree, Big Lots) so you should save those $12 bucks you might spend on the s&h and save it for something worthwhile like a book.
I also won a $1000.00 gift certificate on ebay for $51.00. thought I got a good deal, until I checked out the stuff. Cheap , over priced and inflated shipping and handling. still good. Help yourself if anyone wants to use it. feel like I was ripped off and would like my $51.oo back.cert#cz101158 password 9561
thank you thank you thank you
Total scam you can enter anything in the user and pass and get in.
I received this in the mail a few days ago, and decided to call the dealership for more information on the $1000 gift certificate. They told me to come up there on a Sunday for more info. regarding the win. It was hard to believe, so I decided to google the website beforehand. I am glad that I did because it saved me a trip to the dealership.
I haven't received a certificate yet from selectyourgifts.com, and hopefully I won't, but I got a call on April 30th, 2008 saying I had won a $1000 shopping spree. Instead of being excited, I was just really confused. I asked a lot of questions trying to get my mind around it all. They told me that in order to claim the spree I had to sign up for some magazines subscriptions for $3.96 per week for 48 months. Ultimately they convinced me to give them my credit card information because somehow I got the impression they were only going to charge me once for a total of $49.90. They told me they deal with a company called National Services and cencomagazineservice.com. Before I hung up I was told I would receive a call from one of the magazine companies confirming my order. I noticed later that I was pre-authorized by a Magazine Inc, Virginia Beach, Virginia on my bank statement which didn't seem to be related to any one of the companies mentioned. I ended up checking up on selectyourgifts.com and other sites saying it was a scam. So I got second thoughts about the decision I made to order magazines.
I did receive a call back from National Services to confirm my order, only it was going to be about $300 after the 5 payments. So I told them to cancel everything, though going by the person that called, I'm not quite sure just yet if I'm going to be charged the first $50. So I've been calling each place just to make sure I don't start any subscriptions.
The person I talked to at Cenco Magazine Service told me she couldn't find me in the records but she took down my contact info just in case she saw me in the records on Monday and if so she would make sure to cancel me.
As for National Services and Magazines Inc., I believe they are one in the same.
I'm not satisfied that I'm canceled just yet, considering what other people have gone through and stated on other websites, but I'll find out more on Monday.
