finally
I am so very glad that the word series is finally over. sure it's nice that the red sox won and all, but I'll be happy to go to bed at a decent hour. yes, it was my choice to stay up. chalk it up to the draw of "history" (I always chuckle when sports are framed in "historical" terms), and a fond farewell to a good season, even though my team got beat: hurricanes, injuries, lack of timely hitting, so-so pitching, and, most importantly, lack of pudge. gotta have pudge.
I'm a fan of the NL, so I'm pretty dissappointed in the cards. maybe I'm wrong, but I think even the marlins would have won at least one game. give me small ball, speed, defense, pitching, timely hitting, and all that kinda stuff. but the sox beat the crap out of such play, so good for them. it's funny how the yankees are framed as the "evil empire" b/c they outspend everyone, but let's not forget the sox outspend every other team. even though the world series was lackluster, both LCS were stellar, so no complaints.
I think I'll take a break from sports until spring. it's been fun and all, but back to life. less tv, more Bible, mandolin and such.

During the last month of the season, the Cardinals went 10-25, including being swept by several teams. Rolen, Walker, Edmonds, Womack, and Matheny missed many games with bad injuries. From the time they were 95-42 they were not the same team. I am an Astros fan and saw the change in the Cards. We went from 21 games behind to 12 in that short period. Even Card fans living in Houston did not expect them to do much in the playoffs because of the injuries and the loss of Carpenter and the sore arms of several pitchers including their closer. We blew it because Roger and Roy had to pitch out of turn to get us into the playoffs. If Roger and Roy had started in the first two games in St. Louis, we would have swept that disabled lineup.
Small ball? Good grascious, get away from ESPN. Just because homer hitters can bunt, even the Babe was a great bunter, does not mean they play small ball. Walker, Pujols, Edmonds, Rolen? A player can not play well with bad backs. When they were well, the Cards were 11-0 vs AL and kicked the stuffings out of the Marlins and Braves. Just a thought. The Cards were not a good team in the Series. Lucky for the Sox. Unlucky for the NL.
yeah I can see what you mean. and I didnt mean to imply the cards should play small ball...rather that's the kind of play I enjoy, which is why the series was particularly fun last year.
