formula
after trying very hard for weeks, we've decided to stop breastfeeding and go all forumla, all the time. this was a very hard decision, as we are very well aware of the advantages of nursing, but after much struggle and difficulty, we decided it was best for all of us to go this direction.
I wont go into a lengthy defense of our decision (although I wouldnt mind a discussion if anyone wants), but we truly believe this is what is best for us. sure it's expensive and has some drawbacks, but we're glad that God has given us peace about this important decision, and we're glad to have moved on. we know that He will provide for our needs and pray that He will grow Caleb to know and love Him.
we thought it would be socially a little hard with some folks in our circle, since nearly everyone breastfeeds, but we've been so encouraged by folks responses. now we feel like we can enjoy being parents and enjoy loving our son again, and not have to worry and struggle all day and night.
oh and if anyone wants to help the cause, the formula companies like to send free samples and coupons if you sign up on their websites. so go here and here if you're so inclined.

Hey! I saw your pictures and now can remember who you are! ;o} Have you tried WIC? They help with this kind of thing. May you find peace with your decision. I had to decide the same with my twins, because nursing was not helping me bond with them and there were too many complications. It was the right choice. They are healthy, happy, cuddly, boys!
One advantage of formula is that it is easier for the dad to take part in the feedings. Looks like you got the hang of it Bob.
yeah michelle's got more much-needed sleep these days. and caleb is eating quite well now, so we're thankful that it's working out.
And don't forget that using formula from now on doesn't undo all the good you gave Caleb with the breast milk in the beginning.
you may already know this, but if not, be forewarned that formula-fed babies tend to poop less than breastfed ones. jeremy and i about freaked out the first 24 hours we had livia as we waited for this normal body function to occur! just consider it a nice side effect to the whole formula decision.
yes, he stinks more now, and he saves it up more now too. had a record load in the diaper yesterday. michelle's infection is pretty much gone now, and caleb's related diaper rash is getting better and better, so we're happy to see more confirmation that we've chosen the right path. thanks to all for your encouragement.
Praying for you guys...Caleb is gorgeous!
Well honestly I am sorry BFing didn't work out. Is there any formula Caleb does best with? Is he showing any allergies? I have some similac and some enfamil that is opened but hardly used. I dunno what y'all are going for.
thanks Katie. so far we've been doing enfamil lipil iron (powder), and no allergies, but he's been pretty gaseous lately. so we're trying the gas drops a little, but we'll see. we've got similac too, and the dr. said it's pretty much the same, so we'll use that sometime soon.
Bob. With our first we breastfed for one year.. Yes, it is healthier and cheaper... but the downside is the drain on your wife. Our second one is due in march and we have allready decided to start with formula after a few weeks. now a days, technology has grown and the baby formula is not as bad as it was when we were kids... Don't depair over it.. you are doing the right thing for your family.
