the drop
with exactly one month til the due date, our boy has "dropped." a couple days ago he was riding pretty high, squishing michelle's lungs and stomach especially. now he's settled in pretty low, and michelle has traded more lung and stomach space for less bladder space. the joys of the last month.
the drop has given us a new sense of urgency. according to the books, the "engagement of the head" as it's called happens 2-4 weeks before delivery, which is about right. michelle especially likes to plan ahead, so we'll soon be packing the stuff we can pack beforehand for our hospital stay (which hopefully wont be all that long). she's already made a freezer full of meals and bread and whatnot, and we're making arrangements for friends to look in on the dog. poor katie...her world is going to be turned upside down. good thing she likes kids.
(disclaimer: this is NOT our son) some of our friends from our bradley childbirth class just had their boy, and since we were at women's east anyway, we stopped in. as I held him I could hardly believe that will be us in two weeks. or 4. or 6.
I'm a little nervous about how labor will go, but I know it's all in God's hands. I'm very excited to take our son home and be a little family, home together for a week or so. for many years (about 10 or so) I've dreamed about having a family with kids, and now it's happening!!!
so we're praying as we take the final turn of this slow race. michelle is definitely slowing down, but her spirits are high. we're amazed that at every step we've been blessed with good reports, and we know that God will contiune to be with us. please keep praying!

I will be praying for you both! I have also read Tripp's book on raising children and have heard him speak. He is wonderful. Have you read Doug Wilson's book on raising children and boys? It is also good.
Thanks! Are you referring to "Standing on the promises"? Looks like Wilson has written a whole shelf-full of books. I've heard of him and read some of his stuff online, but I'm turned off by his abrasive style, when it comes to cultural commentary at least. But I just skimmed the first chapter of "Standing" online and it looks pretty good.
We'll be praying to wiggy. Exciting times indeed.
Hey Bob and Michelle. Just wanted to let you know that I read your blog every few days. Bob...you're a very good writer....always captivating. I decided to finally write because you shocked me by having a picture of a little baby up. Here I am following your entire pregnancy and then you go and have a baby before I was ready for it. But alas it wasn't yours. I am very excited for you two and think of you often.
I am still suffering some strange form of chronic fatigue and can relate to Michelle in her disease and pregancy (and Dan can relate to Bob)
Although, the tables have turned and Dan is now in the hospital with viral meningitis and I am trying to take care of the kids by myself...not fun since I am always exausted and slightly dizzy and the kids awake at 5:45 am. but my mom is graciously flying from S.C. to help me out. They think he might have to be in the hospital for two weeks maybe....ugh.
Well. Just wanted to let you know that I am very excited to really see your beautiful baby boy! Good luck with the last leg of the journey!

hi kat! so sorry to hear about Dan's illness. we'll definitely pray for yall (your xmas photo is still on our fridge, by the way). I'll try to remind Michelle to pray for you specifically, since she knows all too well some of the trials of chronic illness.
thanks for your encouragement, and feel free to drop a comment any time :-)
My heart was actually lodged in my throat when I saw that shot under a title reading "The Drop".
no we're not there yet, tho Michelle thinks (hopes) we're getting close. it's a lot harder on her back now.
I'm so excited for you guys!! Nothing is as good (or terrifying) as the those last days of pregnancy/first days of baby. Happy Family!!
Yeah, we're praying for you, too. I'm so pumped for you! I spent most of my last couple weeks of pregnancy in a hot bath - great on the back and the spirits.
Stay strong Michelle and Bob, and get sleep. Not that it will help if it's a long labor, but it can't hurt. Man, I can't wait to see the little Weiger. Glad you found your Settlers pieces. Someday Gideon and the little Wieger will be playing it. That'll be a scary game.
